Found out something interesting at work the other day. Salt is a remedy for burns, specifically when you need to treat the blisters.

There’s an old saying, where salt goes, water follows.

A lot of the body’s processes of moving liquids such as blood and urine revolve around this concept as these bodies of liquid are mostly made of water that naturally wants occupy space of higher solute concentration.

In otherwords, salt applied topically to blisters will suck out water from said blisters, effectively reducing the pain and swelling.

Salt can be used as an antibacterial and disinfectant- I get relatively mild rosacea (non contageous inflammatory skin condition that drs admit they havent gt a clue of the cause but want to give you antibiotics-surprise surprise) (so far anyway) soap irritates it so I used a relatively week solution of dead sea salt-too much salt and it stings like a muther funker.

Really? That’s good to know, in the past I’ve mainly used hydrogen peroxide and tea tree oil for my go to disinfectant/antibacterial remedies, but I can imagine a salt solution can bear a lot of uses as well.

I find that ice works best for some and heat for others. Couldn’t tell you what’s responsible for the difference in sensation however.

Arnica (a herb), is extremely good for bruises and minor burns. Best applied as a gel.

In regards to the practice of applying salt to burn wounds, there seems to be a limited amount of research about treating burns specifically with salt, if any.

The closest document I could find was a study done on lab rats utilizing speleotherapy to assess its effects on uninjured, wounded and burned tissue. The conclusion of this experiment stated that the treatment reversed morphopathology and improved morphological parameters.
