Thing about being married is that, if you’re lucky, while the going is good, it all seems great.

Trouble is, this Blue Pill heaven can end at any time. When it ends, and statistically, it’s highly likley it will, it Turns into Blue Hell.

Then you realise all the time wasted, all the years wasted, all the money gone.

Then you gotta start again, and if by this time you’re in your 40’s 50’s, it ain’t easy to start again…

That’s the s~~~ty part. I thought I’d get married when I was younger, luckily most the young women were busy riding the carousel and the few girlfriends I had made short work of proving what c~~~s they were long before marriage was ever on the table, so it never quite happened.

As a single dude with a decent job who handles his finances well, it really doesn’t take all that long in life before you realize divorce will hit you f~~~ing hard and child support will last well past the age you could theoretically retire should you just stay single. At this point if I were to date someone for a year or two then spend a few years having a couple kids with them, I’m financially bent over til my mid to late 50s. Why would I want to do that when the alternative is I could potentially be set to retire by 40?

The math just doesn’t add up. They say a kid cost about 200-250k to raise. With tax savings and my income level that should basically mean I’d have to work the equivalent of about 2 years per kid…yet somehow you factor divorce into the equation and I’d have to spend 20 extra years of my life working that otherwise would be optional. Yeah…no thanks…I’m good with that.

I never had any kids, but I got married twice. I knew how bad the odds were for marriages, but I just had to check it out for myself and see if I was smart enough to beat the odds.

Same thing when I turned 18. I volunteered to join the Marines, and then I volunteered to go to Vietnam. Just had to check it out for myself.

Trolling guys with not married no kids is very offensive. Seriously dude, shut the f~~~ up

Do not post s~~~ like this again. Throwing out that you have no kids is especially cruel for those of us who have kids and are prohibited by court order from seeing their kids.

A perfect post from a well respected and popular brother.

I salute you for that May.
If I could I would buy you a beer. Hold onto that promise and if during my road trip do catch up in Oklahoma consider that beer already bought my friend.

I have been very lucky. Never married, no kids. Vasectomy. Done. My life is my own.

The most important thing you can do is ask yourself, what do I really want out of life. Really think about it, and always be true to yourself. Then Do it.

Yeah I was married, but how else was I going to throw away over two decades of my life?

How many men on here can say this? Damn does it feel good.

The funny thing about life is that you can make the wrong choices sometimes that leads to bad AND good things in your life. There is a big difference between admitting something was a mistake and regretting that choice…and all that developed after that.

I made the wrong choice in getting married. However, it brought me 2 wonderful kids and taught me a lesson about life that I might never have learned if not making that wrong choice. I could have married a woman who utterly destroyed me, like some men on here have. I might still, or never recover from divorce. But I have, and I love my life.

    It feels good.

    Ok. Then do it.

I’ve never done meth or crack, but I have empathy for those who suffer from addiction.

Like a bird on the wire, like a drunk midnight choir, I have tried in my way to be free.

That’s a good point. I definitely have a much greater appreciation for my freedom than I ever did before that marriage.
